| Gottliebs travels across all 50 states has resulted in three books. His first book, Washington: Portrait of a City, formed the core of a permanent exhibition at the National Building Museum. His second book, American Icons, is the photographer's hommage to every major symbol of our nation. His third book, Abandoned America is a poignant look at abandoned objects--from farms to factories, silver mines to sewing machines; this book was selected by PEOPLE magazine and USA Today as a "2002 gift book of the year." |

A graduate of Columbia University College and Law School, Gottlieb practiced law in Washington, DC, and later became Director of Environment of the U.S. Synthetic Fuels Corporation. In the mid-1980s, he turned to a lifelong hobby of photography. In addition to his freelance work, Gottlieb is founder and director of Horizon Photography Workshops, located in northeast Maryland midway between New York City and Washington, D.C.
